About JoAnn:
JoAnn develops and implements a
variety of safety programs for the 8000 employees at Los
Angeles County + USC Medical Center
and its three comprehensive networking health centers. In that capacity she meets with various
facility departments, government and regulatory agencies on safety
compliance and programs. After
twenty-nine years of service JoAnn retired from the County. Within a month she was asked to return
and provide services that are needed for hospital accreditation. JoAnn, on a part basis, continues to
teach a variety of environmental and occupations safety classes as well as
addressing safety concerns at the facilities. When did ABWA come into her life?
In November of 1994, her high school
friend and ABWA Member Brenda Phillips invited JoAnn to join the Pomona
Valley Avante Chapter, Pomona, CA. ABWA has truly met its mission with JoAnn
by enhancing her life at every level.
With ABWA courage, confidence and support, she feels that she can
take on anything life brings her way both personally and
professionally. The “best
practices” of the Association continues to serve JoAnn well.
Therefore, she feels honored and obligated to share her ABWA experience
with everyone she encounters including her family.
JoAnn is mother to an adult
daughter, also a member of ABWA, and to her developmentally challenged
brother when necessary. Although she has no biological sisters, JoAnn will
tell anyone that she has thousands of sisters, the awe inspiring and
generous of spirit women of ABWA.
