“Promise to Deliver”

Our 2008 – 2009 National Theme is “Promise to Deliver”.  Since it was announced, I have received several inquiries.  Some questions were very interesting while others were a little amusing.  However in general you all basically asked for an interpretation and/or what exactly is the promise that we need to deliver on.  After consulting with ABWA National here is the intent of the theme.

The American Business Women’s Association is driven by its Mission Statement:

The mission of the American Business Women’s Association is to bring

together business women of diverse occupations and to provide

opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally

and professionally through leadership, education, networking support

            and national recognition.”

It should be the directional and/or guiding force in every aspect of the Association.   The success of the ABWA brand and experience solely depends upon how we deliver on the mission.   Every time we quote or refer to that Statement we are promising several things to existing and potential members.   We must ensure that our respective leagues are diverse and that all members are aware and take advantage of the many opportunities that this Association offers.   Encouragement through leadership, education and networking support will definitely help them to grow personally and professionally as well as receive recognition for their efforts. When our guiding or directional tool is the Mission Statement, we will find benefits and value in our membership.

Now that you know the intent of the theme, there is one other factor that you must consider.  What is the practical application of the theme?  Employ “best practices’ within your leagues.  Send your members to District and National Conferences.   Be aware and take advantage of ABWA opportunities.   Accept the responsibilities of leadership within the Association.  Finally, you must model the way for your ABWA sisters.

Adherence to the theme will help our leagues with recruitment, retention and revitalization.  Concurrently our Association will flourish and grow.    Therefore, we must embrace and employ our 2008-2009 National Theme and “Promise to Deliver” on the ABWA Mission.
